Harry Kane trains with golden boot ahead of 100th England appearance
England’s all-time leading scorer and captain will reach the milestone in the match against Finland and will receive a tribute from the federation; Kane reveals that Cristiano Ronaldo is his inspiration
Golden goal. Striker Harry Kane caught the eye in England training on Monday by donning a pair of golden boots ( see below ). The centre-forward will reach the milestone of 100 appearances for England this week, as they face Finland in the Nations League.
The Football Association of England (FA) is promising to hold a pre-match ceremony to honor Harry Kane, who is also the team captain. He has scored 66 goals for the team — the country’s all-time top scorer.
— It’s been an incredible journey so far as an England player. I think reaching these milestones is something I’m incredibly proud of. 100 caps is no mean feat — said Harry Kane.
He also revealed that he is inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star recently reached the 900-goal mark in his professional career , at the age of 39.
— I feel in good shape, physically and mentally, at the peak of my career. Seeing other players, Ronaldo scoring more than 900 goals, him competing at 39 years old, that inspires me to play as much as possible — commented the English striker.
But he is not the first to reach the 100-game milestone. Other prominent England players have done so, including Peter Shilton (125), Wayne Rooney (120), David Beckham (115), Steven Gerrard (114), Bobby Moore (108), Ashley Cole (107), Bobby Charlton (106), Frank Lampard (106) and Belly Wright (105).
England made a winning start to the second division of the Nations League, beating Ireland 2-0 away from home. The second game will be on Tuesday against Finland at Wembley.
