Mallorca fan gets one year in prison for racism against Vini Jr and Chukwueze
The sentence is the sum of sentences in cases of racial abuse against a Brazilian Real Madrid striker and a Nigerian ex-Villarreal striker
The 3rd Court of Instruction in Palma de Mallorca handed down a one-year prison sentence on Thursday to a Mallorca fan for racism in two cases: against Vinicius Junior and Chukwueze, in games against Real Madrid and Villarreal, at the Iberostar Estadio, in February 2023, for La Liga. The man is also banned from entering stadiums for Spanish football matches for three years.
Regarding Vini Jr, images shown by “DAZN” at the time showed the fan shouting at the Brazilian: “Vinicius, monkey! He’s a f***ing monkey.”
The player gave a statement to the Spanish courts about the case in April of this year, as did the author of the racist insults, who is being investigated for hate crime. This fan had already been punished with a fine of 4 thousand euros and a suspension from sports venues for a period of 12 months.
– Real Madrid, which together with its players has exercised the private prosecution in these proceedings, will continue working to protect the values of our club and eradicate any racist behavior in the world of football and sport – declared the Spanish club.
Vini Jr has been actively seeking punishment for the cases of racism he has suffered in Spanish football in recent years. In June, the Spanish courts handed down an unprecedented sentence in the country: three Valencia fans were sentenced to eight months in prison for racist attacks during the match against Real Madrid, at Mestalla, in May 2023 .
