Manchester City and Inter Milan draw in the Champions League
No goals in Manchester City vs Inter Milan in the teams’ Champions League debut. Despite an extremely lively game, the nets were not shaken at the Etihad Stadium. While City relied on their traditional pressure and dominating possession in Wednesday’s match, Inter opted for a defense with many players to protect Sommer’s goal and their objective was achieved. Both clubs start with one point in the league phase of the competition.
ITALIAN SIDE TOOK THE BEST
Inter Milan lined up with a five-man defence to stop the pressure imposed by Manchester City’s star-studded attack. Overall, the strategy worked, but Simone Inzaghi’s team struggled towards the end of the game, and relied on good saves from Sommer and luck to avoid defeat. Running a risky defence, Inter also frightened the home side and created danger with counter-attacks throughout the game. Ederson appeared very confident and was not leaked with another good performance. Gündogan still had the last chance of the game, but headed over the Italian goal.
18 GAMES LATER…
Manchester City have not finished a competitive match without scoring since March this year, when they drew 0-0 with Arsenal in the 30th round of the Premier League last season. Since the draw, they have played 18 games in English and European competitions with 51 goals scored.
