Manchester United reveal details of new 100,000-capacity stadium
Manchester United have officially announced plans to build a new stadium on land adjacent to the current Old Trafford. For the first time, the club have released details of the project to recreate the old stadium, which would have a capacity of 100,000 and could cost up to £2 million.
According to an official statement, the construction would go far beyond the sports aspect and could generate around 90 thousand jobs.
— Foster + Partners, the lead architects for the Stadium District, helped shape proposals on how best to utilise the land surrounding the stadium to regenerate the area into a powerful driver of sustainable growth centred on a sports, residential, entertainment, business and education campus — Manchester United said.
Foster + Partners is the same architecture firm that designed the new Wembley. According to global consultancy Oxford Economics, United’s plans to regenerate the stadium could save more than £7bn.
United’s new home, if it has a capacity of 100,000 people, would become the largest stadium in England, and the second largest in all of Europe , behind only the new Camp Nou, which can hold up to 105,000 people with seats.
