Mbappé had an agreement with Liverpool in 2022, but PSG intervened in the plans
According to L’Équipe, the star, already looking to strengthen Real Madrid, signed with the English team shortly after renewing with Paris Saint-Germain, which closed the doors to sale with a request of 400 million euros
Mbappé was close to becoming a Liverpool player in 2022. According to French newspaper L’Équipe , the star player agreed terms with the English team shortly after renewing his contract with Paris Saint-Germain that year, but the French capital club made a request of 400 million euros to sell him and frustrated the player’s plans.
According to the newspaper, Mbappé had demanded his departure even though he had renewed his contract in May 2022 until June 2024, with an extension clause for another season (which he did not activate). The striker was reportedly disappointed with the Parisian project and with signings that were against his interests, to the point that he had declared to the board his intention to no longer wear the club’s shirt.
In charge of negotiations for PSG and the club’s former sporting director, Antero Henrique responded to a €200 million offer from Liverpool by asking for double the amount, which put the Reds off. Mbappé’s deal with the English side involved a short-term contract and the possibility of a move to Real Madrid . The French side also did not want to negotiate with the Spanish club.
Mbappé left PSG at the end of his contract and joined Real Madrid in July. He made his debut by scoring one of the goals in the UEFA Super Cup triumph over Atalanta in August.
