Meet Nuno Mendes’s family

Nuno Mendes is a Portuguese footballer who plays as a left-back. He is widely regarded as one of the most promising full-backs in world football due to his combination of pace, defensive ability and attacking ability. Born on 19 June 2002 in Sintra, Portugal, Mendes quickly rose through the ranks of Portuguese football, becoming a household name at both club and national team level.
Nuno Mendes began his career in the youth ranks of Sporting CP, a club known for producing great talents in world football, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Luís Figo. He made his debut for the first team in 2020, aged 17, and quickly established himself as a key player in manager Rúben Amorim’s scheme.
During the 2020-2021 season, Nuno Mendes played a key role in Sporting CP’s Portuguese Championship triumph, helping them win the national title for the first time in almost two decades. His performances were widely praised, which attracted interest from major European clubs.
In 2021, Nuno Mendes was loaned to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with an option to buy, which was exercised at the end of the 2021-2022 season. At PSG, he quickly established himself as the first-choice left-back, playing alongside big stars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. His attacking style of play, combined with his solid defensive skills, has made him one of the most highly valued full-backs in Europe.
At PSG, Mendes has already won Ligue 1 titles, as well as playing in high-level competitions such as the UEFA Champions League.

Although Nuno Mendes was born in Portugal, his heritage can be traced back to Angola. This means that both his parents, as well as his grandparents on both sides of the family, are from Angola.

Nuno Mendes’s father

The loss of Nuno Mendes’ father to a serious illness shortly before his debut for the Sporting CP first team was a profound moment in his life. It forced him to mature quickly.
“Yes, I knew I needed to grow up faster when I lost my father.
Sporting played an important role during that time. While living at the Sporting Academy, I took on other types of responsibilities.
Like a family, the academy helped me in everything – both as a player and as a person”

Nuno Mendes’s mother

Despite her son’s success, Nuno Mendes’ mother continued to work in her traditional blue-collar job. It was discovered that she worked as a cleaner at the José Alvalade Stadium, home of Sporting CP.
As can be seen from the map, it is quite easy for her to travel from Sintra (the Mendes family home) to her workplace, a 23-minute drive.
As a way of showing her joy, Mrs. Tavares Mendes cried profusely when she learned that her son had signed a professional contract with Sporting CP. The photo of her with a sad look – above – was taken just after she shed her tears of joy.

It seems that the Portuguese footballer has an older brother who bears a striking resemblance to him and likely occupies the position of the eldest son in the family. While Nuno Mendes’ brother may not pursue a career in professional football, it is likely that he will play a supporting role in his brother’s career, especially in light of their father’s death.
