Nagelsmann criticizes refereeing
German coach complains that he was awarded a penalty in favor of the Germans
Julian Nagelsmann harshly criticized the refereeing after the draw between Germany and the Netherlands (2-2) on the second day of the Nations League , arguing that a penalty was not awarded for a foul by Xavi Simons on Musiala .
“It came too late. There is no discussion possible,” he began by saying to RTL , also criticizing the fact that the game ended when Germany was preparing to finish a move.
“He didn’t whistle well for either side, but he simply took away a great opportunity from us. He whistled suddenly at the last moment of the attack,” he said.
On the other side, Ronald Koeman, coach of the Netherlands, explained De Ligt ‘s substitution at half-time.
“Of course I would have preferred to have kept De Ligt on the pitch. We are in a period where all mistakes are punished. I gave him another chance, but I protected him by taking him off,” he told NOS.
“There were a lot of good things. We had problems from time to time with unnecessary ball losses and sometimes we had to retreat a lot,” he added.
