Paulo Fonseca reacts to Milan’s crisis
The Portuguese coach reacted to the new defeat of the ‘Rossoneri’ team, who have only won one of their five games
Paulo Fonseca’s situation at Milan is not easy . Since taking on the challenge of coaching the Italian club, the Portuguese coach has only managed to secure one victory this season. This Tuesday, at the start of the Champions League , the Rossoneri failed to win again and ended up losing (1-3) at home to Liverpool .
At the end of the match, the fans were keen to criticise Paulo Fonseca. Even so, the Portuguese coach preferred to play it down: «I don’t think the defeat was a problem of attitude. We started well, both defensively and offensively. After the second goal, we became emotionally unbalanced, the team started making mistakes that are fatal against teams like Liverpool . I have to say that Liverpool were stronger than us and are a better team than us at the moment.»
“I haven’t spoken to the players yet, but we have several problems. When things are going well, the team wants to play and do things well. When there are problems, the team doesn’t have the courage to do the same. Defensively, we are very fragile. One-on-one was difficult, there are obvious difficulties”, admitted the Portuguese coach in the press conference.
Asked about the poor start and whether he had expected these difficulties when he signed for Milan , Paulo Fonseca replied: «They brought me in to change the way we play and that’s what I’m trying to do. I knew it was going to be difficult. Changing so much is always difficult, even more so when it’s a big change. I’m as confident as I was on the first day, even though I know the results aren’t what we wanted and that we don’t have time. What brought me here was my way of playing and that’s what I’m going to continue doing with this team.»
