PSG backs Nuno Mendes after racist insults
Portuguese international was the target of discrimination on social media and the club came out in defense of the defender
On Saturday, PSG hosted and beat Brest 3-1, but even started to lose because of a penalty committed by Nuno Mendes , before the 30th minute, and the following day, the Portuguese international revealed that he was the target of racist insults on social media.
A few hours later, the French club reacted to this complaint and released a statement, showing its full support for the 22-year-old defender. In this lengthy message, the Parisians repudiate these “totally unacceptable” acts and reveal that they are working with the authorities to hold those responsible accountable.
“Paris Saint-Germain offers its full support to its player Nuno Mendes , who was the target of abusive and racist comments on social media during last night’s match against Stade Brestois. Paris Saint-Germain does not tolerate any form of racism, anti-Semitism or any other form of discrimination. The racial insults directed at Nuno Mendes are completely unacceptable. We firmly support Nuno and all those involved, and we are working with the relevant authorities and associations to hold those responsible to account. At Paris Saint-Germain we are committed to fostering an environment of inclusion, respect and unity on and off the pitch. Racism has no place in football and we will continue to uphold the values of tolerance and respect that define our club,” they wrote on social media.
