Roma CEO resigns after De Rossi sacked
Lina Souloukou was considered the main culprit behind the Italian coach’s departure and needed police protection to defend herself from the Giallorossi fans.
Roma CEO Lina Souloukou has resigned four days after Daniele De Rossi was sacked as head coach of the team, a decision that did not go down well with Giallorossi fans .
“We thank Lina for her dedication at a particularly critical time for the club and wish her the best for her upcoming professional challenges. The Friedkin family remains fully focused on the growth and success of Roma , with constant attention to the values that make our team so special,” read the statement released by the Roman club.
De Rossi’s departure made Souloukou the main target of fans’ anger and, according to the Italian press, the Greek leader even needed police protection after they appeared at the club’s training center in Trigoria to demand justification and after having drawn graffiti all over the city that read: “Where is Lina?”
Souloukou had been appointed director of Roma in April last year, having previously spent four years as CEO of Olympiakos .
Eight months after replacing José Mourinho, Daniele De Rossi left the Italian capital club in 17th place in Serie A , and was, last Wednesday, replaced by Ivan Juric, former Torino coach .
