Roma sack De Rossi after winless start to Serie A
An idol of the club as a football player, the coach was hired in January and had three draws and one defeat in Serie A 2024/25
Roma announced the dismissal of coach Daniele De Rossi on Wednesday. The decision is a result of the team’s below-par performance at the start of the 2024/25 Serie A: in the first four rounds, the team drew three matches and lost one .
— The club’s decision was taken in the best interests of the team, to get back on track as quickly as possible, at a time when the season is still in its early stages. We thank Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorosso club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication — the club said in a statement
De Rossi took over as Roma’s manager in January 2024 as Jose Mourinho’s successor and finished last season in sixth place. The former player completed 30 games as coach, winning 13 of them. In June, Daniele extended his contract with the club where he came through the ranks until 2027.
His career in the technical area began in 2021, as an assistant to Roberto Mancini in the Italian national team, where he won the 2020 Euro Cup. A year later, he became the head coach of SPAL , which at the time played in the Italian second division. De Rossi was also fired before the end of the season, due to consecutive defeats.
Daniele De Rossi made his mark on Roma ‘s history as a player. The midfielder emerged from the youth ranks at the age of 19 and played for the Italian club for seventeen seasons.
He only left the team at 36, to play for Boca Juniors for one season, the last of his career on the pitch .
De Rossi played 117 matches for Italy for the national team and has won the 2006 World Cup on his resume.
