Ter Stegen’s replacement leaves retirement
Poland’s Szczesny to undergo medical on Thursday ahead of signing contract until the end of the season
Barcelona moved quickly to find a replacement for Ter Stegen after the German goalkeeper, who is a regular in the Catalans’ goal, suffered a serious injury to his right knee last Sunday – a ruptured patellar tendon – in the match against Villarreal . The German is unlikely to play again this season and Barça quickly entered the free agent market to find a replacement.
According to Polish newspaper Meczyki , the Spanish club’s deal with Wojcieh Szczesny was reached today and on Thursday the goalkeeper will undergo medical examinations before signing a contract until the end of the season. The 34-year-old Pole left Juventus , where he had been for seven years, and, after considering continuing to play in the MLS (United States), ended up deciding to end his career after representing Poland in the European Championship in Germany, now coming out of retirement, which lasted just a few months, to embrace an adventure in Spain.
Before playing in Serie A , Szczesny was at Arsenal , Roma and Brentford , earning 84 caps for his country.
