Joshua Zirkzee is a young and promising Dutch footballer, born on May 22, 2001, in Schiedam, Netherlands. He plays as a forward and is known for his technical ability, physical presence and attacking talent. Zirkzee gained notoriety after excelling in the youth ranks and quickly making his debut in professional football at a high level, attracting attention from major European clubs.
Joshua Zirkzee began his career in the youth ranks of Feyenoord, one of the most traditional clubs in the Netherlands. There, he stood out for his goal-scoring instinct and technical skills, being considered one of the most promising talents of his generation.
In 2017, at the age of 16, he was signed by Bayern Munich, one of the biggest clubs in Germany and the world. The move to Bayern brought him visibility and allowed him to develop in one of the most renowned football academies in Europe.
In January 2021, he was loaned to Italian Serie A side Parma in an attempt to gain more playing time. However, his time in Italy was hampered by an injury which limited his appearances.
For the 2021-2022 season, Zirkzee was loaned to Anderlecht in Belgium. It was at Anderlecht that he found his best form again. Playing under former star Vincent Kompany, Zirkzee scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions, standing out as one of the Belgian team’s key players. This period was crucial for his development and maturation as a striker.
In August 2022, Joshua Zirkzee made a permanent transfer to Bologna in Italy. Bologna, who play in Serie A, saw in Zirkzee an opportunity to develop a young talent who had already shown great potential. At Bologna, Zirkzee has the chance to play regularly in one of Europe’s top leagues and continue his development as a striker.
On 14 July 2024, Premier League club Manchester United announced the signing of Zirkzee on a five-year contract. He made his club debut as a substitute in the season’s opening fixture against Fulham on 16 August, where he scored the match’s only goal. He made his first start for United in their 3–0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford on 1 September.
