Wolverhampton admits comeback near the end and loses to Newcastle

Wolverhampton ‘s poor start to the season continues. After losing to Arsenal (2-0) and Chelsea (2-6) and drawing 1-1 at Nottingham Forest , NES, Gary O’Neil’s team suffered another setback, this time at home to Newcastle (1-2).

Wolves were leading at half-time thanks to Lemina ‘s goal , assisted by Larsen, in the 36th minute, but a late comeback took their first three points in the 2024/25 Premier League . Schar (75′) and Barnes (80’), assisted by Bruno Guimarães and Willock respectively, turned the result around.

Of the five Portuguese players called up, Nélson Semedo was the only starter, ending up being replaced by Doherty in the 77th minute, with Gonçalo Guedes and Carlos Forbs still coming on for the final minutes of the match. The former Benfica player even asked for a penalty in added time, after being held down by Tonali in the penalty area, but the refereeing team did not signal anything.

Rodrigo Gomes and José Sá remained on the bench, with the goalkeeper losing his starting place to summer signing Sam Johnstone after the first two competitive games. At the end of the fourth round, just one point for the visitors, who finish the day in the relegation zone of the English league, while the visitors climbed to third place.
