Barcelona rejects proposal that would make Yamal the most expensive ever
250 million euros failed to convince the Blaugrana to give up the new jewel in the crown
In an interview with Barça One, Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed that last summer he turned down a proposal that would have made Lamine Yamal the most expensive player in history, surpassing the 222 million euros paid by PSG for Neymar in 2017. The proposal, according to the Catalan press, once again originated in Paris, in an attempt for PSG to ease the blow caused by Kylian Mbappé ‘s departure to Real Madrid , at the end of his contract. On the table was an astronomical sum of 250 million euros.
“Six months ago, we received 250 million for Lamine and I said no. He is the most fashionable player worldwide, what is his real value? I don’t know, but it is something we cannot calculate. Barcelona is a club that also knows how to sell, but whoever wants a player from us will have to show their arguments. And if a player wants to leave, the doors are open to him, because we only want those who really want to stay here,” said the director, who did not fail to express satisfaction with the work carried out by Hansi Flick so far.
«In this last transfer window we didn’t want to make any sales, we wanted to keep the same squad because we knew it could yield much more than it was yielding. And it seems we weren’t wrong, Flick is getting the most out of the players. Gundogan left , Olmo came in … The players are yielding much more than in the past, like Raphinha and Lewandowski , they seem to have a different face. Whoever wants to leave, should bring an offer and we’ll look into it, as we always do», concluded Laporta.
