Cristiano Ronaldo gets emotional after goal on the day his father would have turned 71
The star experienced a different emotion in Al-Nassr’s victory in the Asian Champions League and reiterated his longing for his father, who passed away in 2005: “I wish my father was alive”
Cristiano Ronaldo had a day of intense emotions in Al-Nassr’s 2-1 victory over Al-Rayyan in the Asian Champions League. As the scorer of one of the goals, he did not celebrate as usual and simply pointed to the sky. It was a dedication. The goal was dedicated to the star’s father, José Diniz Aveiro, who would have turned 71 on the day of the match.
“Today’s goal (Monday) had a different flavor. I wish my father was alive to celebrate it. It’s his birthday,” said Ronaldo, in a press conference.
José Diniz Aveiro died in September 2005, when Cristiano Ronaldo was 20 years old. On more than one occasion, the Portuguese revealed that he regrets that his father did not see the greatest achievements of his career .
Cristiano has scored his 904th official goal and is still on a great run in the race for his thousandth. Playing for Al-Nassr, he has scored 71 goals in 78 matches – this season, he has scored seven goals in eight games for the Saudi team. Although he admits that his 1,000th goal is a goal , he says he just wants to enjoy the rest of his career.
– I won’t have much more time on the field. What matters to me is that I’m enjoying myself and I don’t care what people say about me. What matters is winning.
At 39, he reiterated that he no longer cares about individual awards. But he recognizes that he will forever live under pressure.
– Life under pressure is normal for me. It has always been like this since the first day I wore the Manchester United shirt. I believe this pressure will be with me until the end of my days – said the Portuguese.
Al-Nassr secured their first win in the Asian Champions League and reached four points in Group West. The team with the number 7 returns to the field this Saturday, against Al-Orobah, in the Saudi Championship.
