Icelandic international acquitted of sexual assault charges
Reykjavik District Court declares Albert Gudmundsson innocent
Fiorentina forward Albert Gudmundsson , on loan from Genoa , has been acquitted by Reykjavik District Court of sexual assault charges and found not guilty.
The Icelandic international had been accused of sexual assault by a woman over an alleged incident that took place in Reykjavik in the summer of 2023.
The case was initially shelved and then reopened after an appeal. At the hearing on September 12, Gudmundsson appeared and reinforced his innocence. Fiorentina also maintained that it was calm and completely protected by the contractual issue.
On social media, the striker reacted to the decision announced this Thursday.
“Not guilty! This is the clear conclusion of the Reykjavik District Court in a ruling released today. Although I was always confident of a positive outcome to the case, the ruling came with some relief. It is not easy to deal with mentally, but I have learned that my family and friends mean everything to me and I will be forever grateful to them. Finally, I would like to say that I will never support any form of violence. As a father of two children, including a young daughter, and having three younger sisters, I sincerely hope that this case will not cause any harm to other women who are true victims of violence. Now I can move on with my life and focus on what I do best,” he wrote.
