Juventus beat RB Leipzig in Champions League comeback
Goalkeeper Di Gregorio is sent off, but Thiago Motta’s team reacts after a red card. Bremer leaves the game early and worries the national team
Summary
Juventus continues with a 100% record in the Champions League. And in heroic fashion. Down to ten men for much of the second half, Thiago Motta’s team came from behind to beat RB Leipzig 3-2 away from home and secured their second victory in the tournament. Sesko scored twice for the German team. Vlahovic scored twice, and Francisco Conceição secured a great victory for the Italian team, which had goalkeeper Di Gregorio sent off.
WITH EMOTION
The Old Lady’s victory was an emotional one. Sesko opened the scoring in the 30th minute of the first half, with a beautiful finish after a pass from Openda. At the beginning of the second half, Vlahovic equalized, but Juventus would suffer the blow shortly after. Di Gregorio came out of the area in a challenge with Openda and handled the ball. The goalkeeper was sent off, leaving Juve with one less player.
Shortly after, Douglas Luiz, who had just come on, deflected the ball with his arm in a play with Xavi Simons: a penalty was awarded and converted by Sesko. But Thiago Motta’s team did not back down. And they reacted, even with one less player. Vlahovic scored his second goal of the game and tied the game, taking advantage of a mistake by Leipzig’s defense. In the final minutes, Francisco Conceição secured the comeback with a beautiful shot inside the box: 3-2.
CONCERN
Thiago Motta had to make two substitutions in the first 12 minutes of the game. And one of them is a concern for the Brazilian team. Bremer felt his left knee when he tackled an opponent and had to be substituted early on. He has been called up by Dorival Júnior for the qualifying matches. Argentine Nico González, with a thigh problem, left the match shortly after.
