Kalvin Phillips reveals that what Guardiola said left him frustrated
Even after the coach’s apology, the player says he is frustrated by Pep’s speech
Kalvin Phillips upset with Guardiola at Manchester City
Pep Guardiola continues with his season-long mission to win titles with Manchester City. However, an uncomfortable subject for one player has come to the fore again.
Back in 2022, the coach publicly said that Kalvin Phillips was overweight after returning from the World Cup. The player didn’t get many opportunities under Guardiola.
Earlier this year, the coach apologized for the incident in an interview with The Guardian and The Times. However, the midfielder, who now plays for Ipswich, said he still suffers from the statement.
Phillips reveals frustration after incident
“You probably heard about the time Pep said I was overweight after the World Cup. That narrative on social media just grew . Every club I went to, I would speak to the manager and the nutritionist. They would always talk about weight before saying anything else,” he told the My Mate’s A Footballer podcast.
“ I was getting quite frustrated with it but now that I’ve come to Ipswich, the manager (McKenna) is unbelievable, as is the agent. We talk about all the things that have happened in my career,” he said.
It hasn’t been an easy few years for Kalvin. He had some good spells in England and Leeds, but he didn’t get many chances once he arrived at City. As a result, he lost his place in the national team and was loaned out to West Ham.
However, he did not have many opportunities and was loaned to Ipswich Town. Now, at another club, he is trying to regain his place and once again have great performances.
