La Liga, Premier League and FIFPRO join forces to denounce FIFA to the European Union

The decision to denounce the entity that governs world football was announced by the president of the Spanish League, Javer Tebas

According to Mundo Deportivo, La Liga will join forces with the Premier League and FIFPRO to file a complaint against FIFA to the European Union on Monday. The issue concerns the organisation’s decisions that are overloading the calendar, without taking into account national competitions.

The decision to go ahead with the complaint was announced by Javer Tebas, president of La Liga , who said: “These decisions harm the 300 players who compete in them, but also the tens of thousands who do not. We cannot organise world football for 300 players and 20 teams.”

“Football is a pie in which there are billions of euros that are shared between the leagues. If a new competition appears, it takes money away from someone. Now, the mid-sized European leagues are suffering with the new format of the Champions League. They are losing value in their markets. And if they lose value, the players who do not compete in those competitions will earn less money,” added Tebas.

The president of La Liga revealed that FIFPRO agrees with this position and, for this reason, will also proceed with the complaint. Tebas mentioned, as examples to reinforce his opinion, the cases of the Super League or even, more recently, that of Lass Diarra. The director of the Spanish league believes that major bodies cannot make decisions unilaterally.

“I hope the latest decisions [Superliga and Lass Diarra] make it clear that FIFA and UEFA cannot take unilateral decisions without consulting the owners. Both decisions are in the sense that an agreement must be reached with the players,” Tebas said.
