Lamine Yamal , Barcelona ‘s promising youngster , is the main favourite to win the Golden Boy 2024 , an award that recognises the best Under-21 player of the season.
The 17-year-old tops the list of 25 finalists released by Italian newspaper Tuttosport , organizer of the trophy. The award is of great relevance in international football, having previously been won by names such as Messi, Mbappé and Haaland.
Lamine’s breakthrough came after his high-level performance at the Euros, which catapulted his name onto the global stage.
Biggest favorite
His consistent performances for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team have seen him top the Football Benchmark (FB) index , which evaluates players’ performance in national and international competitions.
Lamine’s rivals include Portuguese João Neves, from PSG, and Alex Garnacho, from Manchester United.
Both also stood out throughout the season, but Yamal appears as the most likely to win the award, succeeding Jude Bellingham, the 2023 winner.
Voting for the Golden Boy is decided by a combination of votes from an international jury and the public, who can participate via the award’s official website.
