At the end of the match between Fenerbahçe and Manchester United (1-1), in which he was sent off, José Mourinho, visibly irritated with the refereeing, stated that he would return to England to coach «an English club at the bottom of the table».

In an interview with Sky Sports , the Portuguese coach explained these statements: «I made a joke. I will never go to a team that is fighting against relegation. I never will. I get upset and I am not in the period of my career to be upset. I am in the period of my career to always be happy and, at the moment, playing in European competitions, I am always getting upset.»

“But I’m not going to fight relegation. It’s too difficult! Honestly, I think it must be the hardest thing. It’s harder than fighting for titles. It has to be very difficult from an emotional point of view, because it’s something that changes lives. I think only the brave ones do it,” he continued.

The Setúbal coach also mentioned a possible return to the Premier League : “I had three clubs in England, that is, I coached in England for four different periods, and I love the country. From a social point of view, I have been lucky enough to live in many cities, but my family lives in London. London is my home, so one day I have to go back, unless no one wants me. But one day I would like to go back.”

“But don’t get me wrong and let’s be very clear, in the next two years, this season and next season, no one is going to take me away from Fenerbahçe ,” he said, adding later.

When asked if the managerial role interests him, Mourinho was clear: “Not today. I still have too much energy to play one game a month, I need to play games.”

“In the future? Yes, I think it’s something I would like to do, to have the experience of playing in a World Cup, in a Euro . To represent the country, my country or a country I feel connected to. One day I feel that will happen, but not now,” he concluded.
