Egyptian national team defeats Mauritania 2-0; in addition to the goal scored by the Liverpool player, Trézéguet also left his mark
Egypt remains 100% in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. This Friday, the team coached by Hossam Hassan beat Mauritania 2-0 and maintained their unbeaten record. Mohamed Salah and Mahmoud Trézéguet scored both goals in the match.
At the Cairo International Stadium, the first half was goalless. Egypt dominated possession and created chances to score, but were stopped by Mauritania goalkeeper Mamadou Diop.
If Diop was preventing Egypt from scoring, Mahmoud Trézéguet managed to take the goalkeeper out of the game in the 24th minute of the second half. From a free kick in the area, the ball fell perfectly to the number 7, who adjusted his body to finish first time, leaving the defense with no chance.
Mauritania tried to come back, but Egypt made the most of their favouritism and secured victory in the 34th minute of the second half. Mohamed Hamdi received a pass from the left and crossed for Salah, who made it 2-0 to secure the victory at home.
With Friday’s result, Egypt maintained its lead in Group C of the Qualifiers with 9 points. Mauritania is outside the qualifying zone and occupies 3rd place with 3 points. In the other match in the group, Botswana beat Cape Verde 1-0.
