Summary
Barcelona beat Brest 3-0 on Tuesday at Montjuic in the fifth round of the UEFA Champions League, on a night for Robert Lewandowski. With two goals, one from the penalty spot early in the game and another in injury time in the second half, the Pole reached 101 goals in the competition – he is only the third player to surpass the 100-goal mark in the Champions League, after Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals) and Lionel Messi (129). Dani Olmo scored the other goal for Barça.
BARCELONA VICE LEADER
With their fourth consecutive victory in the Champions League, Barcelona provisionally jumped to second place, with 12 points – the Catalan club may lose positions in the remainder of the fifth round, but will not leave the G-8. Brest, which was in fourth, dropped to eighth, with ten points, and may leave the group qualifying for the round of 16 in this round.
BARCELONA DOMINION
The surprise of the Champions League so far, Brest had no chance against Barcelona in Montjuic. Just nine minutes in, Lewandowski opened the scoring after converting a penalty he himself had won. Despite their dominance, Barça lacked objectivity in finishing off the plays. The second goal came only 20 minutes into the second half, with Dani Olmo completing a good individual play in the area. In the 47th minute, Lewandowski received the ball in the area, controlled it with class and shot low, into Bizot’s corner.
