Do you remember the games Amorim played at Old Trafford?
Manchester United’s next coach visited the English club’s stadium when he played for Benfica and then for SC Braga (and alongside Hugo Viana)
Rúben Amorim is no stranger to Old Trafford. Not only did he intern there in 2018, but he also faced the club he will now manage.
It was just over 12 years ago, on October 23, 2012, when Rúben Amorim started for SC Braga against Manchester United , in a Europa League group stage game . Interestingly, Hugo Viana, who would form a successful partnership with Amorim at Sporting , occupying the position of sporting director of the lions, was also a starter in that duel.
The game ended in a 3–2 victory for United, with Amorim scoring 80 minutes in a game that was highlighted by a great assist from Éder for one of Alan’s two goals that night.
But this was not the first time that Amorim played at Old Trafford: on 22 November 2011, Benfica traveled to United in the group stage of the Champions League . Amorim was a substitute in that match (entering the field in the 83rd minute) which ended in a 2-2 draw.
In total, Rúben Amorim faced Manchester United four times as a player, losing twice, both times playing for the Braga team, and drawing twice, both times playing for the Eagles.
