Ferdinand defends Mourinho: «He showed how biased Turkish referees are»
Former footballer revealed that he watched the match, after the Portuguese coach’s statements, and commented on the refereeing in Türkiye
Fenerbahçe won at Trabzonspor (3-2) last Sunday, in a crazy game in which they lost the lead on the scoreboard with two penalties in favor of the opponent, curiously converted by Simon Banza (on loan from SC Braga ), but ended up winning in the last seconds of injury time.
At the end of the match, José Mourinho harshly criticized the refereeing team and did so again hours later on social media, with videos showing controversial incidents. The following day, Rio Ferdinand came out in defense of the Portuguese coach.
“Mourinho showed the world how biased Turkish referees are. I watched the game after Mourinho’s statements and I was really shocked,” he began by saying, also defending his actions, whose consequences would be different in the Premier League , for example.
“Mourinho acted as he should. If he had done that in Europe, the punishments he would have received would have been obvious, but the referee took the game away from Fenerbahçe and gave it to Trabzonspor. Then Fenerbahçe took the victory away from the referee,” he concluded.
