Former French international sentenced to 8 months suspended prison sentence
Djibril Cissé was also fined 20 thousand euros for improper use of company assets and omission of accounting records.
Djibril Cissé, former French international and Liverpool player , was sentenced this Wednesday to a suspended prison sentence of eight months, with a fine of 20 thousand euros, for improper use of company assets and omission of accounting records.
However, the 43-year-old former footballer was acquitted of charges of tax fraud and money laundering, with the sentence requested by the prosecutor being one year and a 100,000 euro fine. “I have always maintained that I did not defraud the tax authorities and the courts have ruled in my favour,” said Cissé, in a case that dates back to 2020.
The investigation stated that 550 thousand euros were not declared to the tax authorities, claiming that they ended up in the bank account of the Frenchman, who also failed to declare another 230 thousand euros in taxes. The defense lawyer also explained that his company was used to manage the profits from his activity as a DJ and consultant to the former football player, who assured that it was not his intention to deceive the authorities.
