Despite being third in the Eredivisie, unbeaten in second place in the Europa League and on a run of seven consecutive victories, which ended this Sunday with a 2-2 draw at Twente , John van’t Schip has left Ajax .

The club and the assistant coach have reached a mutual agreement to immediately terminate his contract, which ran until the end of the season. The Dutchman arrived a year ago, initially as interim head coach, and managed to stabilise the team, but the desired results in the new role have not been the best, according to technical director Alex Kroes:

“John took over as manager last season in very difficult circumstances, which helped us immensely and for that we are incredibly grateful. Unfortunately, his role this season has not developed in the way any of us had imagined. We have spoken openly about this with each other and agreed that it would be best to part ways. We are parting on good terms. John remains a true Ajacied and will always be welcome at the club. I wish him every success in the future,” he explained, before handing over to Van’t Schip.

“It is unfortunate that this season has not unfolded as we had initially imagined. Last season, my role as head coach was the main focus. These were intense months, both professionally and personally, during which we achieved our goal of securing European football with a fifth-place finish. I would like to thank Ajax and I will never forget the fantastic support from the fans. Once an Ajacied , always an Ajacied ,” he concluded.
