Lautaro Martínez puts Inter within one point of Serie A leadership
The Argentine forward scored the only goal in the home win over Venezia and the Nerazzurri took advantage of Napoli’s defeat to Atalanta; VAR was the highlight of the match
Faced with Napoli ‘s heavy and surprising defeat at home to Atalanta (0-3), Inter took advantage and hosted and won by the minimum margin against Venezia, 1-0, returning to second place and getting closer to the top of Serie A , being just one point behind the leadership, after the 11th round.
Lautaro Martínez scored the only goal of the game, following a superb cross from Dimarco in the 65th minute, but the Nerazzurri had already celebrated 15 minutes earlier, with Mkhitaryan finishing off a superb team move. However, after a VAR review, the Italian defender was found to be in an offside position before making the assist.
Immediately after the Argentine striker’s goal, Inzaghi replaced him with Mehdi Taremi , who called for a penalty towards the end of the match, claiming that his shot had been deflected by an opponent’s arm. The refereeing team analysed the situation again, but did not award a penalty, due to Thuram’s offside position in the play.
In the last second of the game (90+8′), the visitors still managed to equalize the score, thanks to Sverko’s header, after a cross from Haps, but the VAR intervened again and disallowed the play due to handball, at the moment of the Croatian defender’s header.
