Portugal eliminates Poland with a rout in the Nations League
Star scores volley and penalty, and the Portuguese team secures early qualification for the next phase of the Nations League
What a dance from CR7 and company!
Poland played a great first half, but didn’t finish the game. Then Portugal came and crushed the team in the second half. After Vitinha came on, the Portuguese team played very well and won by a landslide 5-1 at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto. Cristiano Ronaldo was a standout , scoring from a penalty and a volley. The team’s other goals were scored by Rafael Leão, Bruno Fernandes – a great shot from outside the area – and Pedro Neto. Marczuk scored for the Polish team, which was eliminated from the Nations League with this result. Portugal secured its place in the next round, and in first place in the group.
Upcoming games
Portugal now has 13 points in the Group 1 standings of the Nations League. Their next opponent will be Croatia, who have seven points, in the final round. Poland, with four, will end their participation against Scotland, who have only one in five games.

Cristiano Ronaldo is now one of the top scorers in this edition of the Nations League, with five goals. He is tied with Šeško of Slovenia. His second goal against Poland was spectacular, a volley from the six-yard box. The Portuguese star now has 910 career goals. He also provided a great assist for Pedro Neto’s goal.

Vitinho’s entry at the start of the second half changed the course of Portugal’s game. He gave new momentum to the midfield. Rafael Leão headed in a move he had started. Bruno Fernandes scored a great goal from outside the area. And Pedro Neto sealed the deal with a well-placed shot. Other players also had a good performance: goalkeeper Diogo Costa, left-back Nuno Mendes…
