Rúben Amorim equals Mourinho and Klopp
It is the third time the Spaniard has lost three consecutive matches in his career, the second time playing for Manchester City.
After defeats against Tottenham and Bournemouth , in the English League Cup and the Premier League, respectively, both by 1-2, Manchester City suffered their third consecutive defeat, this time visiting the José Alvalade Stadium, when they were beaten by Sporting in the Champions League (1-4).
This situation has only happened twice in Pep Guardiola’s career, one of them at the English club, where he has been since 2016, having played 489 games and lost 66 times. To see this, we have to go back to the 2017/18 season, when the Citizens were defeated by Liverpool (1-2) at Anfield in the millionaire league, then by Manchester United (2-3), led by José Mourinho, in the Premier League and again by the team led by Jurgen Klopp (1-2) in the second leg of the quarter-finals.
Three years earlier, at Bayern, it had been even worse… four defeats in a row: 0-2 at Leverkusen in 2015, 0-1 in Munich against Augsburg and 1-2 at Freiburg , all in the Bundesliga. Finally, 0-3 at Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final .
This is also only the third time Guardiola has conceded four goals in a game in the competition, having lost in Munich to Real Madrid (0-4) in 2013/14, with a Cristiano Ronaldo brace, in the Champions League semi-finals and also in Barcelona (4-0) in 2016/17, in the group stage, with a Lionel Messi hat-trick .
