Seriously now: Guardiola addresses scratches on his face and issues warning
Coach apologizes for statements and shows solidarity
Pep Guardiola was forced to clarify comments he made on Tuesday night when questioned about an injury to his nose and scratches to his forehead. He then said that he wanted to hurt himself voluntarily and in the meantime he took to social media to clarify what he meant. There were immediate reactions to the justification, with several people mentioning that “mental health is not a joke”.
The coach of the English champions appeared in the quick interview area of the Etihad Stadium, after the 3-3 between Manchester City and Feyenood in the Champions League , with wounds on his forehead and nose, and, when asked by a journalist as to the reason for them , he said, between laughs: “I want to hurt myself.” Now he says he shouldn’t have joked.
«I was taken aback by a question at the end of the press conference last night about a scratch on my nose and I explained that a sharp nail accidentally caused it. My response, in no way, was intended to minimize the very serious issue of self-harm», he wrote on X, taking the opportunity to leave a warning:
“I know that many people struggle with mental health issues every day, and I wanted to take this moment to highlight one way you can seek help, by calling the Samaritans helpline on 116 123 or emailing jo@samaritans.org.”
