Sweden beats Slovenia and advances in the Nations League
Sporting forward scored and assisted, as did Isak, in the victory over Slovakia, securing top spot in the group
28 goals and 8 assists in 23 games for club and country this season. These are the devastating numbers of Viktor Gyokeres , who was once again decisive for Sweden in the narrowly-beaten home win over Slovakia (2-1) in the fifth round of the Nations League .
The Sporting forward scored and provided an assist in the match, as did his attacking colleague, Isak , who provided the assist for the first goal of the match, in the third minute, and, after Hancko ‘s equaliser , in the 19th minute, he put his team back in front on the scoreboard, in the first seconds of the second half.
In injury time and during a counterattack, the 26-year-old striker was fouled by Skriniar , just outside the penalty area, resulting in the second yellow card for the opposing captain, who was sent off for that move, with the Newcastle player being responsible for the first yellow card. Also noteworthy is the injury to Lindelof (in the first half), who will miss the next match of the national team and which should be a prolonged absence for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United .
With these three points, the Swedes will qualify directly for League B of the competition, finishing first in Group 1, with three more points than the Slovaks, who they have an advantage over in the head-to-head (the other game ended 2-2), with one matchday remaining. Their opponents this Saturday finished second and will therefore have to play the promotion play-off , while Estonia are third and Azerbaijan , led by Fernando Santos, are last placed.
