Vinícius Jr. speaks out: «I suffered a lot in Spain and I still suffer sometimes»
Real Madrid player spoke about the fight against racism and the difficulties he faced
Vinícius Júnior is one of the leading figures in the fight against racism in football. The target of many acts of racial discrimination, the Real Madrid player gave an interview to CBF TV, in which he spoke about the fight against racism and the difficulties he has faced in life: «In the last three months, we have managed to put three or four people in jail and force them to pay for the crime they committed. We are on the right track.»
“I play in Spain, where I suffered a lot and still suffer sometimes, but of course it is less with the help of all the clubs, of all the people who are doing everything to combat racism, like the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) does,” said Vinícius , who gave this interview before Black Awareness Day: “This day is very important because of everything we have been through and also because of everything the CBF has done, with FIFA and with all the players, we are together in this fight. The intention is that in the near future we will have fewer and fewer cases of racism.”
“I know how important I am, but I always say that the fight is everyone’s, because I alone cannot fight against everything that black people have been through. But I know my weight, I know the strength I have, my speech and I can speak for all the people who don’t have the strength, or who are afraid, or who go through a lot of things and other people don’t always believe what they say. So I am very happy to be able to help”, insisted the Brazilian.
