Rashford was also disappointed to have been left out of the match against Manchester City , but he has no intention of giving up. “It’s a shame to have missed the derby, but it happened, we won, so we’ll move on. I take it day by day, sometimes good things happen, sometimes bad things happen. I try to keep a balance. Is the best yet to come? Absolutely. That’s my mindset.”
Ruben Amorim implemented the 3x4x2x1 system at Manchester United , similar to what happened at Sporting . This means that forwards who, like Rashford , played with the width of the pitch, may be limited. But, according to the English forward, it is necessary to have the «ability to adapt»: «I have characteristics that allow me to play in all three positions, on the left, as a 9 or as a 10. Some positions are more natural for me, in others I have to do more tactical work. The 10 who plays on the left is a position that suits me well, but I have to adapt. Regarding future goals, the Englishman says he is excited about the idea of playing in the 2026 World Cup . “It’s about playing for your country in the best competition in the world. I’ve had the opportunity to do it twice [2018 and 2022] and it’s an unbelievable experience. If I get that opportunity, I’ll take it,” he said. Is that Rashford ’s greatest ambition ? A student also asked that question. “I haven’t reached my goal yet,” Rashford replied , and then went on to elaborate. “No matter what anyone says about me, I have my dreams. I’ve already achieved part of them. But I’m not where I want to be. The problem is that when you get there, something else happens. It’s a cycle that never stops. There’s no real end goal,” he concluded.
Marcus Rashford made his Manchester United debut in the 2015/16 season, under Louis van Gaal. For the Red Devils , he played 426 games and scored 138 goals.
