Leverkusen breaks Inter’s unbeaten run and their defence

Better than Inter Milan throughout the game, Bayer Leverkusen’s persistence paid off in the 44th minute of the second half and they won 1-0. Mukiele scored a goal that was hard-fought and very important. The Germans ended the Italians’ unbeaten run and also broke down the last defense that had not yet been breached.

Facing an unbeaten defense, Bayer Leverkusen was better in the first half. They controlled possession (62%), had more shots (7 to 5) and had a greater volume of shots. Despite their superiority, the only real dangerous play was a great offensive play led by Palacios, Frimpong and Tella. The Argentinean chipped the ball, the Dutchman crossed and the Nigerian hit the crossbar. The number 19 almost scored a great goal.

The second half was more lukewarm, but Leverkusen continued to dominate their opponents. They maintained high possession (60%) and once again had the upper hand in terms of shots (10 to 1). In the last one, after a series of mistakes, right-back Mukiele picked up the ball in the area and shot without a chance for Sommer.

The table

With the victory, Bayer Leverkusen took second place from Inter, who dropped to fourth place. The Germans now have the same 13 points as the Italians and Aston Villa, but have the advantage in goal difference.
