Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur will serve a total of seven games of suspension following a racist comment about team-mate Heung-min Son, after losing his appeal.

Suspended for a month, the Uruguayan midfielder was looking to return to competition sooner, but will miss the remaining games, and will not be an option against Man. United (English League Cup) and Liverpool (Premier League).

The return to the pitch is therefore postponed until the duel with Nottingham Forest, managed by Nuno Espírito Santo, a match scheduled for the 26th.

The sanction was prompted by Bentancur’s words during an interview, in which he was asked for a jersey belonging to his Korean teammate. “Or any of Sonny’s cousins, they all look very similar,” he said.

The controversy prompted an apology from the player, who was harshly criticized by anti-racism organizations in England, being punished by the English Football Association with a seven-match suspension and a fine of 120 thousand euros for violating the rules, namely due to references to nationality, race or ethnicity.
