Jorge Mendes receives award for best agent of the year
Portuguese businessman distinguished in Italy
Jorge Mendes received the award for best agent of the year at the Golden Boy 2024 ceremony. The Portuguese businessman was recognized for the impact that the various deals he made with numerous clubs and players had on the world of football. According to the Italian newspaper Tuttosport, responsible for the award, the transfer of João Neves , who left Benfica for PSG , and Leny Yoro , who transferred from Lille to Manchester United, were some of the most relevant.
João Neves and Leny Yoro were among the finalists for the Golden Boy award, with the Portuguese international coming in second place, behind Lamine Yamal , also a player represented by Jorge Mendes.
Upon receiving the award, the Portuguese businessman stressed that this award is a reflection of his hard work every day: “The important thing is the work and the daily motivation that you have to have in any activity to be able to always be fully focused and do your best. That’s what I do every day.”
The award for best young player of the year went to Lamine Yamal . The forward was unable to receive the Golden Boy trophy in person due to injury, but Jorge Mendes assured that the young star “will recover and be fine soon”. The Portuguese agent also assured that there is no doubt about Lamine Yamal ‘s future : “Of course he will renew his contract with Barça. Lamine belongs to Barça.”
