Manchester United’s much-talked-about cost-cutting since the arrival of INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been the subject of much debate in England and, this Tuesday, The Athletic reports on some of the episodes that have occurred over the last few months.

One of these was in May, when Manchester United and Manchester City won the FA Cup final at Wembley ( 2-1 ) . Usually , when United reached the FA Cup final, hundreds of staff were given tickets to the match, hotel accommodation and food, all paid for by the club, but this was not the case.

INEOS is looking to financially revive the Old Trafford giants and has been trying to control expenses, so, reports The Athletic , it has completely cut out this bonus and, instead, only made tickets for the game available to employees, at the cost of £20 (around €24) each.

Bruno Fernandes , the Portuguese international who is team captain, was “very surprised” by INEOS’ decision and knocked on the door of the boardroom, offering to pay all expenses out of his own pocket. The proposal was rejected because, in the opinion of the boardroom, it would give a “bad image” of Manchester United ‘s new management methodology
