Agenda
La Liga is taking a break for the end-of-year festivities. Real Madrid will return to action on January 3rd, away to Valencia, in a match postponed due to the floods in Spain. Sevilla will return to action on January 4th, in the Copa del Rey, to face Almería, away from home. In La Liga, their next match is also against Valencia, on January 11th, at home.
Just a great goal
Real Madrid showed their control of the field and possession of the ball from the start of the game. In the ninth minute, Mbappé opened the scoring with a beautiful shot from outside the area, completing a great collective move that began with Courtois’s pass. Valverde doubled the lead in the 19th minute with a shot from outside the area after a short corner kick. The third goal was scored by Rodrygo in the 34th minute, again with a great exchange of passes until Vázquez’s assist. Sevilla reduced the deficit in the first half, with a header from Isaac.
Fright and peace
At the beginning of the second half, Real Madrid almost made things difficult for the game. Courtois made a mistake when he cleared the ball, and Isaac had the chance to score Sevilla’s second goal, but the goalkeeper recovered and made a great save. Real Madrid then managed to regain their balance until Brahim scored the fourth goal in the seventh minute, completing a good pass from Mbappé. With the advantage on the scoreboard, the team began to control the result, even having chances to increase the lead, but ended up conceding another goal in the final minutes, scored by Lukébaiko.
Title party
Before the game, Modric and Vázquez, who form the trio of captains alongside the injured Carvajal, displayed the Intercontinental Cup trophy. Real Madrid won the competition by beating Pachuca 3-0 in the final in Doha.
Homage
Also before the game, Real Madrid fans applauded Spaniard Jesús Navas. The Sevilla player ended his career of more than 20 years this Sunday and even played, coming on in the final stretch of the match. He played almost the entire time for the Spanish club, with a brief stint at Manchester City. For the Spanish national team, he played and won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and the 2012 and 2024 editions of the European Championship.
