Following Ter Stegen ‘s serious injury , Barcelona brought Szczesny out of retirement, but Iñaki Peña has been the undisputed starter, a decision that the Polish goalkeeper fully agrees with and explained why, ensuring that he is not frustrated by the fact that he has not yet made his debut for his new club.

“I said from the beginning that I had to get back in shape and that was the most important thing. Now I feel completely ready to play, in terms of physical and mental preparation. I also don’t hide the fact that if I were the coach of this club, I would play as many games as I have played so far, so it’s difficult for me to feel frustrated about the situation, which I agree with 100 percent,” he began by saying in an interview with Sport.pl , praising the young Spaniard.

“Even when the team went through a bad moment and the media tried to put pressure on them, I was the first to say that Iñaki deserves all the trust and that he is playing at a good level. I have a different perspective, as someone who has already retired. I think I am also able to evaluate things in a more objective and less selfish way. Maybe that is why I do not feel frustrated,” he explained, speaking about the excellent start to the season that Barça was having and that, in the meantime, their level has dropped a little.

“It’s a natural consequence of inexperience and youth. I’ve been there myself and I know how difficult it is to go from playing in big stadiums in the Champions League to playing against potentially smaller clubs in the league. This is the path any young player has to take to win trophies. You have to find a balance in terms of mentality. It seems obvious, to approach every game in exactly the same way, but it’s not that easy,” he concluded.
