Two exits in sight at Chelsea with Maresca’s ‘blessing’
Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka have been short of minutes at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is already considering two options. Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka , the Blues’ defender and midfielder , have not been considered by the Italian coach, who says he understands that the players are thinking about alternatives for the future.
Chilwell , signed from Leicester in 2020 for €50m, has only played 45 minutes this season, in Chelsea ‘s 5-0 win over fourth-tier Barrow in the League Cup . Chukwuemeka has been used in the Conference League , but has also been a substitute. “There are players who, unfortunately, haven’t played much for us in the competitions, like Chilwell and Carney . They will probably be the first to want to leave. They work every day because they want to play. If they don’t play, they will probably be thinking about leaving. Every player is in a different situation so let’s see if someone knocks on my door and says they want to leave. We will try to find a solution,” said the manager.
It wasn’t just now that Ben Chilwell stopped counting on Enzo Maresca. At the start of the season, the English full-back was even ordered to find a new club, just like Raheem Sterling . The winger went to Arsenal , while the defender remained with the current Premier League runner-up .
