Van Nistelrooy on post-United opportunities: “I was surprised by the interest”
He is now Leicester’s manager until 2027.
Ruud van Nistelrooy knows that the games he spent as interim manager at Manchester United opened doors for him.
“What happened after the games and the number of clubs interested suddenly surprised me. I played four games, managed a full season at PSV and won a cup. I was already coach of the under-19s and the national team. I have never had this reaction from the world of football. I was happy about it,” he admitted.
The Dutchman, who left Manchester United when Ruben Amorim arrived at the Red Devils, was proud of the work he did: “It was a good period. It was short and intense, but I was happy to help stabilise things. They have been on a good run of results beyond those four games, and it’s great to see that. I really enjoyed creating a connection with the team and the fans.”
Now Ruud van Nistelrooy’s challenge is to coach Leicester until 2027 and the coach highlighted his satisfaction at being chosen as head coach again.
