Amorim: “40 years old? After two months at Man. United I’m already 50”
The trainer commented on his upcoming birthday, as well as the victory over his compatriot Marco Silva
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are breathing a little easier after their 1-0 win at Fulham this Sunday, their third triumph in the last four games. After the match, the Portuguese coach seemed more relieved than satisfied with the result.
“The feeling of winning and winning three points is very important for us. You can’t see a big improvement in the team and that’s a fact. But winning helps us improve. This wasn’t the best game but we managed to win. Sometimes I feel frustrated, we want to play a different style and we will do that in the future. The important thing is that I have a clear idea of what I want to do,” he told the BBC .
One of the highlights of the match was a tackle by young Toby Collyer on the goal line, preventing Marco Silva’s team from equalising in the 88th minute. However, it was a gesture that did not take Amorim by surprise: «He had already done that in training, once. Toby saved our team today.»
Amorim, who is celebrating his 40th birthday this Monday, does not seem real to him: “It’s not 40 years… I’m 50! After two months at Manchester United , it’s 50. It’s a privilege to spend my 40th birthday here.”

Speaking to TNT Sports , the coach addressed the aspects that his team needs to work on: «We need to improve a lot with the ball, but without the ball we were good and controlled the game. We lack some rhythm and strength up front. We need to have goal-scoring opportunities. We have a lot of difficulties with these details. But winning helps us a lot to improve.»
Finally, Amorim commented on the financial limitations he faces in this transfer market, after Manchester United revealed that the club had a loss of more than 250 million euros in the last three years.
“We have to be cautious and follow the rules, we have made mistakes in the past and we cannot do so now.”
