Barcelona are the new holders of the Spanish Super Cup, thanks to a memorable intractable performance against Real Madrid that ended in a 5-2 victory, in an El Clásico where only the Catalans were up to the challenge and in which, for the second time this season, Hansi Flick once again clearly beat Carlo Ancelotti in the battle of coaches (after the 4-0 victory in La Liga ).
Steamroller, comeback , festival or rout – all of them are precise ways of classifying what Barcelona did to Real Madrid’s defence in this final. Mbappé ‘s early goal (5’), in a great individual play, only postponed the disaster that was approaching for Real, especially because Barça had already come very close to scoring twice.

First came the magical Lamine Yamal (22′), who pulled a rabbit out of the hat when he dribbled past Tchouaméni before making a genuine pass into the goal. A goal that showed both quality and confidence from a player who, it’s always good to remember, is only 17 years old.

Camavinga then helped Barcelona open the ketchup bottle , scoring a clear penalty on Casadó. Lewandowski (36′) did not waver and reached the impressive mark of 26 goals in 27 games this season.

Carlo Ancelotti was grim-faced on the bench, while his defence remained very open and unfocused. That’s when Raphinha (39′) appeared to head the ball into the centre of the area, with a superb assist from Koundé .

Just before half-time, further evidence of Real’s defensive inattention: from a corner, Rodrygo handed the gold to the bandit and he ran away with it. Lamine Yamal found Raphinha, the Brazilian turned on his engines again, did whatever Valverde wanted and set up Balde’s goal (45+10′).

With the break, Real tried to correct the terrible mistakes they had made. Dani Ceballos replaced Camavinga (who was lucky not to be sent off), but the ghosts prevailed. Casadó launched Raphinha at speed, Real’s defense was completely disjointed and the Brazilian scored twice in the match (48′).

Szczesny ‘s red card for a foul on Mbappé only gave the Madrid team false hope. Rodrygo did score a great goal from the ensuing free kick (60’), but the team failed to create any more chances and even gave the impression that they didn’t want to take too many risks and concede the sixth goal of the game.

Vinícius Júnior ‘s expression when he was substituted in the 76th minute said it all: disappointed, uninspired and resigned, the Brazilian represented all the feelings of the Merengue team . On the other side, at the end of the game, Hansi Flick hugged Lamine Yamal like a proud father would hug his son. A joy that symbolises the spirit with which Barcelona leave Saudi Arabia, with the 15th Super Cup in its history and, above all, hopes of achieving something great, both in La Liga and in the Champions League .
