Bayern legend puts three key players on the way out
Lothar Matthaus, former German footballer, demands the immediate departure of Sané and Gnabry or Coman, who have been disappointing recently
After a year without titles, a glaring situation in Munich, Bayern are once again leading the Bundesliga , in isolation, despite pressure from defending champions Bayer Leverkusen , but there are still many problems to solve, according to Lothar Matthaus.
The former Bavarian legend was very critical of some of the club’s players, but mainly Leroy Sané , whose contract is coming to an end and he believes that it should not be renewed, despite having recently returned to the starting line-up after a difficult pre-season.
“We are not happy with Sané and he is not happy with himself. He knows what he can do and maybe the change is good for him. Maybe he will get a boost at a new club. There is something missing. It has been like this for years… once he is exceptional, world class, then he disappoints again. He is unhappy with himself because he knows what he can do. Bayern sees that too, I imagine they will renew with five players, but it doesn’t seem to be Sané ,” he said, explaining that he is an inconsistent player.
The former German footballer also took aim at two other wingers who have had some injury problems in recent years and are far from their best: «Maybe one or two who made history at Bayern will have to leave the club. Not just Sané , but also Gnabry and Coman . These are three players who have been here for a long time. One of them is a bit injured and the other is not performing as expected of him. One or two new faces would freshen Bayern up, give them something new.»
Finally, he was full of praise for Jamal Musiala , who he considers to be the club’s main figure, now and in the future, calling for his renewal, as his current contract only runs until the summer of 2026: «He himself could tell me the fixed transfer fee and the salary, even the length of the contract. He is an exceptional player. He should not only be the face of Bayern , but also the player who makes the difference and secures titles in the big games.»
