Bruno Fernandes: “Southampton need points, but we also need a lot, a lot, a lot”
Manchester United captain previews game against bottom club and warns it won’t be as easy as one might expect
After Liverpool and Arsenal , games with great media coverage, Manchester United is preparing to face Southampton , last in the Premier League , a game for which it has had more time to train, but which presents a different type of pressure.
“It always helps when you have time to train and prepare a bit more for games. But I think in these two games it was more about – and the manager told us this – the passion, the desire, everything we put into the game in terms of how much we want to win the game,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports.
“I think everyone is aware of what he wants and demands from us in terms of positioning, tactics and everything. I think we are now reaching the level he wants in terms of effort, running, passion and desire to win games. So I think for me we still have a lot to improve in both aspects. But we will do it. And I am almost certain that we are on the right track to achieve that,” he concluded.
As for the Southampton game , the United captain had a warning: “Now we have a big game that everyone can look at differently, probably from the outside and say ‘United are in a good moment. They have Southampton at home. They will beat them for sure’, but we can’t think like that because Southampton are fighting for their lives. They want to stay in the Premier League and they really need points. But we have to turn that around and look at ourselves and say that we also need points much, much, much more than them. We have to think that we need more points than them and that has to be our objective in every game we play.”
