Lawyer gives new version of Rúben Semedo’s arrest for domestic violence
Ricardo Serrano Vieira reveals that the player will also file a complaint against his girlfriend
Rúben Semedo was arrested in the early hours of December 29 on suspicion of domestic violence. After appearing in court, he was able to travel to Qatar, where he represents Al Khor.
The player was accused of assault by his girlfriend, but the lawyer now presents a version in which Semedo also claims to have been assaulted and will file a complaint.
“The case is still under judicial secrecy, but I can say that it is being treated as domestic violence, which is what we see here in Portugal,” Ricardo Serrano Vieira told the newspaper Marca.
“We can say that an argument arose between Rúben and his partner, which then led to mutual aggression on both sides. The woman ended up filing a complaint and Rúben (Semedo) is also preparing a complaint against the woman. It was more of a provocative behaviour. It was a situation of argument and from then on the argument started to become more heated on her part. That is the problem”, continues the lawyer.

«The Lisbon Public Security Police, through the Criminal Investigation Squad of the Vila Franca de Xira Police Division, arrested, in the early hours of December 29, 2024, a 30-year-old citizen, for the crime of Domestic Violence. On the night of December 28, a 30-year-old woman was the victim of assaults and threats by her partner, and was subsequently held at the suspect’s residence for a few hours until she was able to go to a PSP Police Station, where she filed a complaint. The victim had several visible bruises, so emergency services were called, and she received hospital treatment. After all possible investigation steps had been taken and in view of the evidence collected, an ARREST WARRANT was issued by the Criminal Police Authority, and the citizen was arrested at his residence at 3:00 a.m. The detainee was taken to the detention rooms of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command, in order to be present for the first judicial interrogation on December 30, 2024, for possible application of coercive measures.»
