Manchester United great dies aged 84

This Friday, the family of Denis Law, a great figure of Manchester United , announced the death of the former footballer, sharing an emotional and grateful message. The former striker, and the only Scottish man to win the Ballon d’Or (1964), died at the age of 84, after a long illness.

“It is with a heavy heart that we tell you that our father, Denis Law, has sadly passed away. He fought a hard battle but is finally at peace now,” his family wrote in a statement, after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia in 2021.

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care, both in the past and more recently. We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made a difference. Thank you,” they added.

Denis Law represented the Red Devils between 1962 and 1973, and, interestingly, he also played for Manchester City , the club with which he ended his career in 1974. In those 11 years he took part in 406 games for Ruben Amorim’s current team and scored 237 goals, also being the third highest scorer in its history, only behind Bobby Charlton (249) and Wayne Rooney (253).
