River Plate recovers the defense that gave Argentina the World Cup
Thus ends Gonzalo Montiel’s adventure through Europe

River Plate officially announced the signing of right-back Gonzalo Montiel , who arrives from Sevilla , for 4.5 million euros. The contract is for three years.
Montiel returns to his home club, where he played 140 matches, scoring 6 goals and providing 14 assists before being sold to the Spanish team in the summer of 2021. In Spain, he played in 81 matches, with 3 goals and 6 assists, having been loaned to Nottingham Forest for half a season.
The 28-year-old defender is an Argentina international , having made 36 appearances for the national team. Interestingly, he was the one who converted the last penalty in the 2022 World Cup final, securing the world title for the Albicelestes . The Argentine also secured the UEFA Europa League trophy for Sevilla in similar fashion in 2023, scoring the decisive penalty.
River Plate also announced another transfer, namely that of attacking midfielder Sebastián Driussi. The Argentine giant paid around 10 million euros to Austin FC, from the USA, for the 28-year-old player.
